Detail Oriented

Updated: May 1, 2023

In this season of waiting for my next, I thought I would spruce up my resumé -just in case the Lord directs me back to a corporate or government contractor position. While reading through my resumé and the accompanying cover letter, I noticed that I placed great emphasis on being “detail oriented”. Apparently, I really wanted prospective employers to know they were getting a person who by definition “pays close attention to all of the small particulars when working on a task or project”.

Although it started when I was younger, I still enjoy word search puzzles and games that provide opportunities to super sleuth for solutions- focus on the details. Ironically, I found myself working with some pretty ‘detail attentive’ managers. Needless to say, the experience of meeting their expectations sharpened my skills at spotting typos, misspellings, grammatical errors, incorrect or missing punctuations, finding that penny, and even noticing when spacing was off between letters, words, lines, or images. Speaking of lines, one of my many challenging managers prohibited the use of MS Word because the thinnest setting for single lines in tables was too thick. Since he was this precise, you know I had to mind my Ps and Qs with every document, report or presentation prepared.

Yet, no matter how skilled I am in attending to details, I will always pale in comparison to the Master of details. Our God, who created us with fingerprints that are not just unique from person to person, but from finger to finger. He is Elohim, the God who creates and He created all.

Just look at the details in His instruction to Noah for building the ark ( Genesis 6:14-16 ), His instruction to Moses and Aaron for the Tabernacle (Exodus chapters 25-27, Exodus 25: 9), and the garments for the Levitical Priesthood (Exodus 28). My best laid plans and details for any project for which I've embarked…pale.

As I continue studying His Word to get to know His character and draw closer to Him, I see that He’s not only the God of those great details in history; He also knows every detail concerning me- from before conception (Jeremiah 1:5; Psalm 139:15,16) to ascension and beyond. He knows every strand of hair on my head (Matthew 10:30). He even knows what’s in my heart (1Chronicles 28:9) and what concerns me.

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that the God who created heaven and earth ( Genesis 1:1, Psalm 95:5) , who created me ( Isaiah 64:8) , and whose thoughts are so far above mine (Isaiah 55:9) , actually cares about me (1Peter 5:7). Not only does he think of me (Psalm 139:17,18); He also has plans for my future (Jeremiah 29:11), both earthly and eternally. Knowing just that fraction of the depth of His love for me and even more so believing He loves me, gives me peace and makes me love Him more.

In professing I love Him, I must then show it by believing , trusting Him. I trust that He didn't move me out of a situation to have me return to it. Nothing in any fiber of my being says that my God has changed His plans for me. So, I will hold fast to the Word I received from Him last fall and put away this resumé. He has sustained me and will always take care of my need (Philipians 4:19) . He is Yahweh Yireh, Jehovah Jireh , the Lord who provides ; besides my steps are ordered... I just need to follow His direction.

The Word of My testimony

Matthew 10:30 - But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Psalms 95:5 - The sea is His, for it was He who made it, And His hands formed the dry land.

Jeremiah 1:5 - Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

1 Chronicles 28:9 - And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off forever.

Psalms 139:15-16 - My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. [16] Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Psalms 139:17-18 - How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! [18] If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

Isaiah 55:9 - For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 64:8 - But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

1 Peter 5:7 - Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Exodus Chapter 28

Exodus 28:2 - And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty.

Genesis 6:14-16 - Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. [15] And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. [16] A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.

Exodus chapters 25- 27

Exodus 25:9 - According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Philippians 4:19 - But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Psalms 37:23 - The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
